Review: Beauty Box 5

Last month, Beauty Box 5 reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in reviewing one of their monthly subscription service boxes filled with 5 deluxe beauty samples. I jumped at the chance since I haven't had a monthly beauty box subscription in almost 3 years and I love trying out new products! For those of you who haven't heard of BB5, it is a subscription-based beauty sampling service that delivers 5 deluxe samples and full-sized products right to your door every month for just $12/month.

When my first box arrived last week, I was happy to see that 2 out of the 5 products, the lip gloss and nail polish, were full sized! The other three were very generously sized deluxe samples. I had never heard of any of these brands before, so I was excited to try them all out for the first time.

Here's what was in my box:

Nanacoco lip gloss in 'Mysterious' - $4 for full size product. The first thing I noticed when I applied the gloss was the great smell - it reminded me of vanilla cookies! The color was a very shocking pink, and while I probably wouldn't wear it every day because it's a bit too bright for the office, it will be perfect for nights out or days where I skip the eye makeup and want to go for a bolder lip. I loved how moisturizing and smooth it was - no stickiness at all. It was very long lasting as well. Overall, a super product for a an amazing price! I will definitely try this gloss out in other colors.

La Fresh 'Travel Lite' oil free makeup remover wipes - $2 for 8 wipes. These travel sized paraben and oil free wipes are supposed to remove all of your makeup, even waterproof mascara, while leaving your skin moisturized. I typically use the Neutrogena makeup remover wipes and I don't think I'll be changing brands after trying the La Fresh ones. The wipes were pretty small - I'm not sure if this is because they're travel sized or if they're just smaller than the Neutrogena ones I'm used to - and they weren't very moist. They were great at removing my mineral face powder and my blush, but I had to use 3 of them to get all of my makeup off because they weren't very effective at removing my Diorshow mascara, which isn't even waterproof. I wasn't super impressed with these wipes and wouldn't try them again.

Novex Brazilian Keratin deep conditioning treatment - $19 for full size (2lbs.) For someone who colors their hair and uses a hair dryer and curling iron at least 4 times a week, I should be using deep conditioning treatments frequently and I never do! I brought my deluxe 1oz sample into the shower with me and applied it after shampooing to my damp hair and combed it through. Then I put it up in a clip, stepped out of the shower and let it sit for 25 minutes before getting back in to rinse it all out. I could immediately feel the difference in my hair, even before drying it. I gave myself a straight blow out and my hair was super soft and silky - much softer than normal! My hair had the same look and feel as if I got a conditioning treatment and blow out at the salon. I will definitely be using the rest of my deluxe sample and will consider buying the full size product!

Style Essentials 'Fade to Black' nail polish - $7 for set of 4 colors. I received the black & white confetti-like polish which makes for a fun topcoat.
It's perfect to layer over a white or light colored polish and comes out exactly like a polish I have called 'Connect the Dots' that I photographed a few months back on my ring finger.

Pur~lisse SPF 30 daily moisturizer - $55 for full size (1.7oz.) Some of you who read my beauty posts closely already know that my skin is super sensitive and prone to cystic acne, so that's usually what I look for when trying out any new facial product. Since this sample wasn't big enough for me to try out for 2 full weeks, I can't really comment on whether or not it's suitable for sensitive skin. But I can say that it has a light, pleasant smell and isn't overly sunscreen-smelling like some facial moisturizers with SPF can be. It left my skin feeling soft and smooth - fully moisturized with no flaking all day long. My loose mineral powder went on nicely over it and it seems like it would be a great daily moisturizer to keep your skin protected from the sun and looking young!
