Lately on my Kindle...

I hope you all had a nice weekend! I've been reading a ton over the last month or so - with my trip to Antigua and all of the new alone time I have, it's been nice to pass the hours lost in some good books. I thought it might be fun to share my reviews with you in case you're looking for a good summer or weekend read! Please feel free to leave your thoughts on my reviews or suggest some new books for me to read in the comments below. :)

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. A beautiful but heartbreaking story about two teenagers who have cancer and the amazing love they share. The author is able to make you laugh through the main character Hazel despite the grave topic of her cancer and illness. I absolutely loved this book but warning, you may cry a bit! 4.5 stars.

The Magician's Assistant by Ann Patchett. A very odd tale of a woman who falls in love with a magician who then passes away and how she copes with his death after he's gone. The storyline is quite intriguing which kept me reading until the end but it wasn't my favorite of the bunch. 3 stars

I Can Barely Take Care of Myself by Jen Kirkman. As a female who's never really wanted to have children, this book was a must read for me! This book is hilarious but also really truthful and I could totally relate throughout the entire thing. It felt kind of nice to know that I'm not some weird type of female that shouldn't exist and there's another woman out there who feels the same way I do! 4 stars

Nantucket Nights by Elin Hilderbrand. I read this book in one sitting when I was in Antigua...I could not put it down! When a trio of friends goes out at night for a yearly celebration, one of them goes missing and the result is an enthralling story with lots of twists and turns. You'll love the suspense and mystery of this book! 4 stars

Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead. A friend leant me this book for my vacation and I was so glad she did. Although it's long, I flew right through it and was totally engrossed in the dramatic social lives of everyone in this East coast WASPy family during a wedding weekend. A total chick-lit beach read that will keep you entertained! 4 stars

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. A harrowing tale about a young Australian couple who live on an isolated island as lighthouse keepers and their struggles to have a child. When a baby in a boat washes up on their island, they decide to keep her as their own without realizing what trouble it will cause for the people back on shore. It was a bit slow for me but well worth finishing. Warning: have the tissues ready! 3.5 stars

Crazy Little Thing by Tracy Brogan. A super fun summer read about a woman with 2 kids who is going through a nasty divorce and decides to move the family to her aunt's lake house for the summer. I won't reveal too much, but hilarity ensues with this crazy family dynamic and I laughed out loud multiple times throughout this book. Bring it to the beach with you and you won't be sorry! 4 stars

Grace: A Memoir by Grace Coddington. As the former creative director for Vogue, Grace has a lot to say about the fashion world! She tells her life story which is both interesting and relatable for the majority of the book. At times I found myself skipping parts as the book is a bit long, but overall I did enjoy reading it, especially to learn more about fashion throughout the years. 3.5 stars

The Island by Elin Hilderbrand. I really enjoyed this summer story about a mother and her two daughters who are all going through different struggles in their lives and just need a break from reality. This book had more character development than some of Hilderbrand's other books which made me really enjoy it. 4 stars

  1. I've never heard of any of these books. I'm kind of out of the loop where books are concerned. I have been only reading 15th century English books. Nerd alert here. ;)

  3. I read The Light Between the Oceans for book club, and our group had a similar review as you ... a bit slow, but a good story and a total tear-jerker at the end! Right now I'm re-reading the Harry Potter series, so that should keep me busy all summer :)

  14. Ooh...great suggestions! I love all Elin Hildebrand books. I read them all the time on vacation and seriously finish them in one day. I just two older ones, the Blue Bistro and the Beach club and loved them both!
